Movie Review: Tum Mile

Tum Mile Movie Preview

Kunal Deshmukh is back again with a love story. The story is about an estranged couple, but the wallpaper of 'Tum Mile' is the Mumbai floods. Naturally then, the expectations from Tum Mile are very high. Tum Mile has attempt to chronicle the natural calamity on celluloid, with seriousness.

Kunal has create the horrors of 26th July on celluloid. Let’s not forget, the memory is still etched in our memory and has tremendous recall-value.

Two people [Emraan Hashmi, Soha Ali Khan] meet after a hiatus of six years. The innocuous encounter starts after they both came back to Mumbai on the same flight and the film ends up with a rollercoaster ride through some of the darkest hours in Mumbai. They see the city get swamped with disaster and loss… and are forced to stick together in this time of crisis.

Soha and Emraan has portrayed opposite attracts in the film. Although their story goes in flash back for several times, the narrative doesn’t confuse the viewer one bit.

But the problem lies in blending the natural calamity with the love story. Even if you’re a non-Mumbaikar, you’d vividly recall the images that were flashed on news channels continuously, or you may’ve watched the footage on internet. But in Tum Mile, the nature’s fury doesn’t come across strongly or effectively. In a few scenes, yes, you do draw parallels with real life. But something is missing!

Kunal has explained the love story very well. The tiffs between Emraan and Soha are so identifiable. The ‘Dil Ibaadat’ song can turn you on emotionally.

Now, talking about acting, we must say Emraan takes giant strides as an actor. Grossly under-rated despite having delivered competent performances in the past, here’s hoping that people wake up to this talented actor after Tum Mile. Soha has proved herself once again. She is extremely natural and that’s what makes her scenes so believable. Sachin Khedekar is there for just one sequence.

On the whole, Tum Mile caters to the youth mainly. At the box-office, the Vishesh Films – Emraan Hashmi combo has cultivated a strong fan-base over the years. The film has coupled with good music and hope the film should find itself in the comfortable.
zone. However, 2012 is a strong opposition which is also highlighting a disaster on celluloid and which has had a wide release in India might divide the business.

Pritam’s music is a possesition in the film. The cinematography does justice to the beauty of South Africa in the romantic portions and also during the flood sequences. The computer graphics could’ve been better and more effective.

All though the movie is worth watching specialy for the actor duo who has given nice performances.
