According to a source, Catherine Hardwicke, director of the vampire movie, had taken the audition of the two stars in the privacy of her own bedroom.
Hardwicke didn't want to hire the British actor to play heart-throb vampire Edward Cullen unless he could romantically connect to Stewart in front of the camera.
So, she has tested the onscreen chemistry of the duo by taking an audition in the bedroom of her California home. The director said, "This is the place where we had the first kiss from Rob and Kristen. We did the audition to see if these two would have chemistry, to see if their kiss would be exciting and cool".
The director has showed the room where the scene was filmed during a U S Interview. Reportedly, Hardwicke has admitted that she threw Pattinson and Stewart into the deep end, because they had only just met when she asked them to pull together up.
Hardwicke concluded, "I'm like, `OK, I know you guys just met and everything, but… you're really gonna kiss! `".
