The young American actress Brittany Murphy died on Sunday, 20 December. Her family and fans are shocked by her sudden death due to cardiac arrest. Brittany was only 32 year old.
Brittany started her career at very young age of 14 but she came under limelight after doing teen comedy movie 'Clueless'. Brittany was once again appreciated for her role of rapper Eminem’s love interest in the movie '8 Mile'.
Murphy married British screenwriter Simon Monjack on May 2007. Brittany and Simon have a home in West Hollywood. On Sunday at around 8 am, the Los Angeles Fire Department received "a medical request" from their house.
Brittany apparently collapsed in bathroom. The officials of Fire Department took her to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead after two hours at 10:04 am due to cardiac arrest.
There were conflicting reports as to whether Murphy was discovered by Monjack or her mother.
Officer Norma Eisenman said that the Los Angeles police are investigating the cause of Murphy’s death. Investigators and coroner's officials are at Murphy's house as paparazzi camped outside.
According to the authorities, Murphy was taking prescription drugs for a variety of medical ailments and there are no preliminary indications that point to foul play.
An autopsy is planned for Tuesday, a coroner’s official said.
Brittany Murphy’s father, Angelo Bertolotti who reached at his home in northern Florida, said he learned of her death Sunday morning from his son (Murphy’s half brother), who read it on the Internet.
In a phone interview Angelo Bertolotti said, "It's too shocking and too fast. It just doesn't make sense to me. As we speak I am staring at a picture of her. I just can't believe it. Can't convince myself she's gone."
Brittany's parents Angelo and Sharon Murphy divorced when she was only 4 years old. Angelo, who now works in the movie business, said he last saw his daughter about three years ago.
Bertolotti also said Brittany was very close to her mother, “They were inseparable.” He also said, "”She was a wonderful girl,” he said, “She worked hard to get where she was. I am absolutely broken up. I can’t get heads or tails of anything at this point. I am just trying to put the pieces together myself.”
Brittany was born on Nov. 10, 1977, in Atlanta and moved to Burbank with her mother when she was 13. She was appreciated for her performances in successful films, including 'Clueless' (1995); 'Girl, Interrupted' (1999); 'Drop Dead Gorgeous' (1999); 'Don’t Say a Word' and romantic comedy 'Just Married' (2003) with Ashton Kutcher.
Director Curtis Hanson, who worked with Murphy on '8 Mile' said “She was a very special and vulnerable person. The honesty of her emotions made it so that [her lines] didn’t feel like scripted dialogue."
On Sunday, Brittany's co star Ashton wrote a Twitter message saying, “2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany’s family, her husband & her amazing mother Sharon.”
Some reports say that Brittany left production before work was complete on her current project “The Caller.” That account was parodied on a recent “Saturday Night Live” episode.
